Makeup for Beginners | The Drugstore Makeup Edit

I have not done a Drugstore or Affordable makeup post in ages so I thought why not just sit down and pick the best affordable products in my collection that are as good as quality high end products. These products are great if you are new to makeup or just started building your kit. This are also great if you are a student or if you do not want to spend on luxury makeup. Honestly, you don’t have to spend more on makeup when the drugstore makeup is amazing and it won’t break your bank either!

Primer

Primer is essential to hold your makeup a bit longer and also address any skin issues to provide you smooth base for makeup. When it comes to primer, I really like Soap & Glory One heck of a blot primer | £10 for when my skin needs hydration but matte look. For days, my enlarged pored look really bad, I reach for Maybelline’s baby skin pore eraser | £7.99. It is a silicone primer and is similar to Benefit Cosmetics’ Porefessional primer.

Foundation

I have only tried Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation | £9.99 from Drugstore and I absolutely love the coverage and formula. I was not a foundation girl earlier and always used to reach for BB Cream/ CC Cream or Tinted Moisturisers. Garnier BB Cream | £9.99 has been my fave for years. I’m currently loving Bourjois 123 perfect CC Cream | £9.99. Loreal True Match and Maybelline Fit Me foundations are really good too and have broad shade range.

Concealer & Corrector

LA Girl Cosmetics | £5 make good concealers & correctors. They have wide shade range and are very affordable too. For highlighting, I like to use Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer |£7.99. These are really good quality and long lasting.

Eyeshadows

Sleek Makeup has been doing really good eyeshadow palettes since so many years. *Sleek Au Naturel was my first eyeshadow palette years ago and my sister took it from me. Glad it has come again in my life. This has all basic shades to create any look from day to night and is a must have palette for beginners.

Blush

When it comes to blushes, Sleek Makeup does the best ones and are often compared to the cult Nars blushes. I have so many blushes from Sleek and my favourites are Sahara, Pomegranate, Flushed, Rosegold. I was recently sent *creme to powder blush in Amaryllis| £5.99 and OMG this is a stunning pink blush. This looks absolutely gorgeous on all skin tones. I even compared it to my Lancome blush in Rose Paradis and both look similar on skin. This is only £5.99 and is such a steal. This is a must have blush for Spring/Summer.

Contour Kits

I know I know when it comes to Contour kits, people talk about ABH ones but look at the Sleek *Face Form (powder formula) | £10 which are very pigmented and long lasting. I personally like to use the*Cream Contour kit| £10.99 and then set with Face form contour kit. Sleek brought these kits so affordable without compromising on quality.

Highlight

I am an absolute highlighter junkie and for me one is never enough. I really like the highlighting kits as these are affordable when it comes to multiple shades as well as very travel friendly as well. I used to see Sleek Highlighting kits all over Instagram and these have always been on my wishlist. I am so glad that I finally got my hands on one of them.*Sleek Precious Metals, Solstice Palette, Cleopatra’s Kiss have been famous highlighter palettes from the brand.

Lipsticks & Lip liners

Gone are the days when the only lip liner people were obsessed were from Mac. Our drugstore has fabulous brands like Rimmel, Nyx, BarryM who do fabulous lip liners. Rimmel ones are my favourite and the shade Spice | £2.99 from 1000 kisses range is my go-to shade from last 7 years. Its amazing!

For lipsticks, I would say one should have both creamy as well as mattes in their collection. *Sleek Matte me liquid lipsticks | £4.99 are amazing. The formula is long lasting and pigmentation is great. They don’t apply patchy and the shade selection is fab. For creamy lipsticks, I have couple of good ones from Kiko Cosmetics. Rimmel London and Revlon also does good creamy lipsticks.

Brows

Soap & Glory Archery Brow liners | £8-£10 (both pencil and tint versions) have been my firm favourite for years now. These are often compared to ABH ones. I have not tried the ABH brow products yet but i really like and recommend these. If you prefer brow kits, Freedom makeup does a nice brow kit and even pomade options.

Eyeliners

I prefer pencil liners for beginners. Rimmel Scandaleyes waterproof liners | £3.99 are amazing. If you like liquid liners, Rimmel London and Collection liquid eye liners are good.

Mascara

Maybelline lash sensational mascara | £7.99 has been my favourite for years now. This is even better than most high end mascaras and the price is unbelievably low. It lengthens, curls and provides volumes, It doesn’t flake and I can’t recommend this enough.

Lashes

When it comes to False Lashes, *Ardell Demi Wispies have been my firm favourite for years now. These were also my first fake eyelashes and I always get so many complements when I wear these. I can’t recommend these enough. You can buy singles or infact the multipacks | £11.99 are quite affordable too. You can use discount code LASH10 on False Eyelashes UK website to save 10% on your first order and 1st class delivery too.
