Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum review

Serums are hot products when we talk about anti-ageing. The reason is that it is possible to concentrate higher levels of active ingredients in a serum – so potentially they can deliver impressive results. And you don’t have to give up your favourite day or night creams because serums are designed to be layered with them.

Retinoids are Vitamin A derivatives that have been shown to have a truly amazing results on the skin. Topical application speeds up cell activity and unclogs pores allowing sebum to flow freely up towards the skin’s surface.

Murad has perfected the science of Retinol with this breakthrough Retinol Youth Renewal Serum* | (£65/€85), powered by Retinol Tri-Active Technology: a fast-acting Retinoid, a time-released Retinol, and a Retinol booster. This potent, yet gentle, formula quickly and visibly minimizes lines and deep wrinkles, firms, evens skin tone and boosts radiance for more vibrant, youthful-looking skin.

Retinol Tri-Active Technology

  • Fast-Acting Retinoid – accelerates results by quickly boosting cellular turnover
  • Time-Released Retinol – encapsulated in a lipid shell that slowly melts onto the skin, it delivers consistent, sustained levels of retinol over time
  • Retinol Booster – enhances efficiency by acting like a magnet to help enhance skin’s receptivity to retinol’s benefits

Swertia Flower Extract helps increase skin’s resilience to boost firmness.
Hyaluronic Acid Spheres attract moisture deep into the skin’s surface to plump and smooth skin.

Texture: This slightly yellow tint serum is very light weight in texture and gets absorbed into skin straight away without leaving the skin sticky. This makes it easy to layer moisturiser on top of it and you don’t have to wait for serum to get absorbed. This ticks a fuss-free checkbox in my diary.

Ingredients:

Water/Aqua/Eau, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isopropyl Palmitate, C14-22 Alcohols, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Dimethicone, Propanediol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Shea Butter Ethyl Esters, Retinol, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Ceramide NP, Sodium Hyaluronate, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Swertia Chirata Extract, Squalane, Punica Granatum Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Extract, Urea, Yeast Amino Acids, Trehalose, Inositol, Taurine, Betaine, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Silica, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Butylene Glycol, Lecithin, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Cetyl Palmitate, Laureth-23, Polysorbate 20, Trideceth-6 Phosphate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chlorphenesin, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Tris (Tetramethylhydroxypiperidinol) Citrate, Sodium Benzotriazolyl Butylphenol Sulfonate, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Red 4 (CI 14700), Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citronellol, Fragrance (Parfum)

How to use: Apply a thin layer of this retinol serum at night after cleansing. If you’re new to retinol, I would suggest use it alternate night to get your skin used to this.

Any side-effects?  It is important to wear SPF in the morning if you’re using retinols in your skincare routine as Retinol products can increase your skin’s sensitivity to sun. Secondly your skin may experience slight dryness or flaking (my skin didn’t experience any flaking with this product though) when you first introduce any type of retinol to your skincare routine, please increase your hydration levels and opt rich moisturisers to keep your skin well moisturised. I like to apply Hydro-dynamic quenching essence (an extra step but essence increases the effectiveness of serums or treatments) and then Retinol Youth Renewal Serum and finally Hydro-Dynamic Ultra Moisture (velvety rich moisturiser) from Murad Skincare. You can choose your favourite moisturiser.

Final Thoughts: I have been using this alternate evenings for the past 1.5 months. My skin is more clear, looks brighter, skin’s texture is smoother and my complexion looks even. I see myself purchasing this when I run out.

p.s. Fabled.com has this serum cheapest for £55.25 right now plus there’s a 15% off voucher VOU039315429 for your first order 🙂

Until next time

  9. Retinol has saved my skin for years! I had severe acne and my dermatologist recommended me a extremely concentrated cream and even though my skin burned and peeled off the first weeks, after that I had baby skin for almost a year! Now I get an ocassional breakout and I wear retinol everyday but in quantities that are more gentle. The fact that they now sell it in a serum makes me want to get it right now, I really love when products are gentle and still effective ♡

  10. Superb article, thank you for sharing your skin-care points. As for me, I love the retinol serum, hyaluronic acid serum and Vitamin C serum from PetuniaSkincare.com. There is a definite improvement in the appearance and feel of my skin and I look more younger now. My acne scars have faded as well.
