As soon as I saw the images of Huda Beauty lip contour pencils by the famous Huda Kattan appeared on social media, I knew I had to try them. If anyone doesn’t know about Huda Kattan, where are you living? Seriously!!! She is a Makeup Artist & Beauty Blogger  with Iraqi ethnicity born in the United States of America living in Dubai with over 14 million followers on Instagram. Huda Kattan started her beauty line with false lashes which became a great hit in beauty world and there was no looking back for her. She recently came with lip contour pencils and has just launched liquid lipsticks.

The idea of lip contour pencils is to change shape of your lip or to make them look fuller with two similar shades of lip contour pencils. However, these pencils can still be used as normal lip pencils.

Spending £12.50 on a Mac lip liner used to look like a lot but these retail for £16 (No Thanks!!!! its expensive and unnecessary for a lip pencil). Anyways, these were first available on pre-order from Cult Beauty website and I didn’t buy at that time (firstly because the swatches available were few and secondly, I wasn’t able to justify the price). But HELLO for a makeup addict, if you miss buying something it might leave a stamp on your brain and you keep on thinking about it, haha. So, I bought this as soon as it came in stock again.

I used the discount code CBWELCOME to grab free delivery without minimum spend on Cult Beauty website and it arrived the next day (which i least expected). As soon as this lip contour pencil arrived, I applied immediately 🙂

Packaging

These come in a sleek matte black chic packaging just like Mac lip liners with Huda Beauty text logo in white & hot pink on pencils as well as outer packaging.

Shades

These lip contours are available in 9 shades – Bombshell, Cheerleader, Famous, Gossip Gurl, Video star, Trend setter, Vixen, Trophy Wife & Icon. I chose the shade ICON which is a beautiful muted red and looks very flattering on my medium skin tone.

Texture, Pigmentation & Longevity

These glides smoothly and are soft while application but dries quickly to a super matte finish like liquid lipsticks. These are very pigmented and stay for a long time. However, if you eat oily food, it breaks up and the texture as well as finish appear slightly drying or patchy so dabbing a little lip balm can help. I however prefer reapplication of my lip product in such cases.

If your lips are very dry, these may not be your cup of tea. In most cases, I do not like to touch up my makeup when I am out and about just because I am a mommy and there are many important tasks than refreshing your makeup! I would prefer this liner for occasions when I donot have to eat outside or for photography purposes.

Available through Cult Beauty in the UK for £16 each.

Worth the hype? I love love love the shade and fuss-free application of these liners. I seriously wish the lipstick formula didn’t break up after meals (but that’s the case with most liquid lipsticks). Shelling out £16 on a lip liner may be too much but seriously if you can spend £18-£20 on a liquid lipstick, these are worth trying too. Bear in mind due to the fact that how creamy these are, these will run out very quickly. You need to sharpen the pencil before each application which in my opinion is not best for a £16 lip liner. But the shade ICON is seriously amazing!

I might pick shades Trend Setter and Trophy Wife next (if I am able to get over the fact that how expensive these are, haha)

These look great, thanks for the review x

  2. I keep seeing these lipliners everywhere but I don’t think I’d justify paying £16 on one lipliner which you said needs sharpening after each application.

  3. You picked up a very beautiful shade! The price is too much though. 🙁 I will rather buy her liquid matte lipstick.

    1. Thanks Dipti. The colour is stunning for sure and I don’t own any other lip product in this shade. The price is super expensive for a lip pencil that needs sharpening after each use. I know I will be running out of this lip pencil soon. Mac ones are £12.50 which are not cheaper either but they last a long time.

Icon looks gorgeous! I have been eyeing these up too and think I might splurge if they are still in stock next time Cult Beauty has a GWP offer on!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Parie. The instagram community makes us buy and try so many new things, right?

  7. Pretty and such a hot shade it is! 🙂

    1. It is indeed :). Thanks for checking out this post Mariyam 🙂

  8. Icon and Trend Setter look just my sort of shades! I’m quite guilty of forgetting to use lip liners most days!

    1. Trend Setter is a pretty shade too. Seriously, unless the shade itself is good enough to be used alone, i don’t take pain to use multiple lip products. Just a swipe of lipstick and I’m out of the door 🙂

  9. The shade looks like a perfect colour for all skin tones.I too was planning to buy atleast 1 of the lip contours but seriously they are shit expensive.Loved the swatches though.Nicely reviewed dear.

    1. Many thanks Yamini for checking the post out. Yes, these are expensive for a lip pencil specially that needs sharpening after every use.. I mean Mac Lip pencils are for £12.50 but these are £16 . But you know how the life of a blogger is! We want to try everything right?

  10. Icon and Gossip Gurl are calling my name. The pigmentation looks amazing! I really want to try her liquid lipsticks 🙂

  12. Great review hun! I was definitely intrigued when I saw that she had released these but when I saw the actual shade range I wasn’t all that impressed. I have to say when you’ve found your HG (mine being the MUFE Aqua lip liners) it becomes hard to purchase more expensive liners from other brands!

Iqra | The Blushing Giraffe x

    1. Thanks love. I need to try MUFE aqua liners. I have heard so many good things about them. I agree about purchasing HGs from a certain brand makes it difficult to purchase expensive product from other brands. The money can be well spent on HGs 🙂

  13. Sehar says:

Icon is such a gorgeous shade, I recently just purchased, Bombshell and Trendsetter and they are quite good but the major downfall is of the fact that it runs out quickly, and I’m scared to actually try to sharpen it because it might get rid of the product at the tip and I don’t want to risk it, I have only applied it on once just to test it out as it came a couple of days ago… thanks for the post. 🙂
