Hyperpigmentation or uneven skin tone? | Dr Sheth’s Skincare

Hyper-pigmentation, uneven skin tone are some of the common issues that most people suffer with age or sun damage. However, if you have brown skin or Indian/South-Asian genes, its quite normal to have discoloration or hyper-pigmentation around your mouth or on any part of your face. Brown skin have more melanin and their skincare needs are different. Even if you have lighter skin but suffer from hyper-pigmentation or uneven skin tone due to any reason, this skincare line might be of interest to you :).

About the Brand

Dr. Sheth’s is a luxury skincare brand that combine nature and science to create an exquisite, medically tested products. Its a brand that contains the expertise of three generations of Indian skin doctors (Dr. Sharath Desai, Dr. Rekha Sheth & Dr. Aneesh Sheth) and has likes of Celebrities.

The brand doesn’t claim to make anyone fair but does make your skin bright and even toned which is why I want to share these products on my blog.

I was introduced to the brand by lovely Michel from @gunshotwounds and I was more excited because the brand was from homeland India and has clientele from Bollywood. The brand is also featured in some really popular magazines including Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia and Verve Magazines.

My Skin type: I am 32, have medium complexion and combination to dry skin. I get hormonal spots around that time of the month but no major concerns in terms of blemishes. My T-zone is prone to congestion and my concern has been slight discoloration/hyper-pigmentation (due to hormones or sun damage) on my temples and cheekbones.

I have Indian ethnicity and slight hyper-pigmentation is quite normal for my skin. My mum has developed quite strong hyper-pigmentation around cheekbones with time. I have seen her skin getting uneven with age so the reason I was more interested in this line was to make my skin even and to treat the actual cause of the problem before it worsens.

Why Brown skin needs different skincare?

  1. Melanin production is hyperactive because of pollution, dust and UV.
  2. Environmental conditions
  3. Genes

Dr. Sheth’s products contain higher quantities of actives, which are scientifically proven to treat hyper-pigmentation or uneven skintone. Though the products are marketed for Indian skin but it is for anyone and everyone tbh.

This daily cleanser blends rosehip seed extracts along with Vitamin E to repair damage on skin due to pollution. The cleanser has coconut and almond oil that deep cleanses the skin without drying. This gel cleanser foams up nicely and has red milli globules which contain vitamin E and Almond Oil that together keep skin soft.

The soap-free cleanser is great for people living in cities because it addresses intense pollution and dust that city people face on a daily basis. The cleanser deep cleanses the pores to extract toxins and provides brighter and hydrated skin. This can be used am or pm and also foams so well with cleansing brushes like Clarasonic or Panasonic. The best part is the skin doesn’t feel tight or dry after using this cleanser. The cleanser was also featured in my 2017 Yearly Faves post.

This glow lotion has high dose of Niacinamide (also known as Vitamin B3) along with hibiscus extracts, citrus unshui extracts and orange oil for a super brightening effect. Niacinamide is a very effective skin-restoring ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging skin. Among these benefits is the ability to visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dullness, and a weakened skin surface.

This milky lotion has thin consistency and absorbs right into the skin without leaving any residue. This also makes it a great choice for oily and combination skin. The lotion doesn’t interfere with makeup and you get a silky smooth base to start your makeup. My husband is a fan of glotion for his dry skin so it ticks boxes for all skin types really!

This sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB, and also works to hydrate and de-pigment (yes it works to de-pigment your skin too). It has an extreme matte finish and absorbs instantly into the skin with minimal white cast.

Mineral filters like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide work with organic filters to protect against the sun’s rays. Lecithin serves as a hydration agent to ensure it doesn’t give the skin a dry feel (which is so important). Licorice and sunflower extracts remove pigmentation and repair skin damage as it occurs.

This is great for daily wear as it has spf 30 protection. I would suggest re-applying your sunscreen after every 2-3 hours. For beach holidays or for countries where sun is very harsh, I prefer SPF 50 protection.

This moisturizing night cream has over 15 actives and packs a power punch to bad skin. It may be called the youth enhancer, but it definitely works beyond that on pigmentation and evening skin tone.

Pollution along with skin damage makes the skin pigment at a much earlier age. The high potency blend of actives like kojic acid and vitamin A (retinoid) battle age related pigmentation. Hyaluronic acid, vegetable oils and wheat sugars all work to keep the skin hydrated and plump.

The yellow-ish cream is very rich yet lightweight and has red milli globules which is nothing but kojic acid. Kojic Acid is a natural acid derived from mushrooms that works to lighten pigmentation. The cream absorbs quickly into the skin without just sitting on top of the skin. My skin looks naturally glow-y on mornings if I use this cream night before. I am running low on this one and definitely need to order this ASAP.

My skin LOVES this and this is the only night cream I reach for frequently on good or on bad skin days. Its the BEST!

Dr Sheth’s products are pH balanced, paraben-free, sulphate-free and cruelty-free.

I would love to use this brand.I want to even out my skin tone.Is it very expensive?

    1. Thanks for checking the post Amrita. Its an Indian brand and prices are mentioned in INR. Its difficult to define expensive or inexpensive. Anything expensive for person A may not be expensive for person B. I may not want to spend money on products that I am not sure about but this range has all good ingredients including Vitamins, Oils, Niacinamide etc which when combined with science help in quick absorption and better performance.
