Liquid Lipsticks Face Off | Coloured Raine & Gerard Cosmetics

Liquid lipsticks face off | Gerard Cosmetics & Coloured Raine

Matte liquid lipsticks are everything, yeah EVERYTHING! I recently purchased Coloured Raine liquid lipstick in shade 24Seven from Beauty Bay website so I wanted to compare the formula with my favorite liquid lipsticks i.e. Gerard Cosmetics Hydra matte range. However, I did pick up another shade ‘1995’ from GC which is popular after their bullet best selling brown lipstick 1995. I will keep this post short, so let’s move on to the face off.

Coloured Raine Matte Liquid Paint | 24Seven | £15

The Colored Raine matte liquid paints come in sleek glass tube with striking pink lid and doe foot applicator. The formula is thin, comfortable matte and long lasting. Once applied, it takes about 50-60 seconds to set and once set, it won’t budge a little unless you consume greasy food. It fades slightly on inner corners of mouth after eating greasy food. This liquid lipstick is best to remove with oil based makeup removers or even with coconut oil.

Coloured Raine lipsticks are currently available in 41 shades including metallic mattes and Beauty Bay stocks 22 of them.

This is a cruelty free brand (in case you are wondering)

Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte liquid lipstick | 1995 | £10.50

If you are a regular reader, you would know I have only good things to say about Gerard Cosmetics Hydra matte lipsticks. The reason being its super affordable (though the prices of these lipsticks have been increased from £9.50 to £10.50 recently which I am not happy about) and super pigmented and long lasting even with lots of drinks or food. The packaging is beautiful sleek frosted tube with golden lid and shade name written on a sticker at the bottom of the tube. The shade 1995 is a Mocha toned nude as per GC website that looks flattering on most skin tones. On my lips it looks more brown than nude and the swatches below show true representation of colour on my lips too.

The formula is very thin and dries out completely matte in seconds. These lipsticks are very comfortable on my dry lips and this was the reason I picked up another shade from same brand otherwise I would have rather picked up something new. That itself speaks volume!

The lipstick stood above any other liquid lipstick in my collection in the greasy food challenge. This will also fade slightly but not as bad as the other lipsticks. The brand offers 22 shades in Hydra matte range at the moment and Beauty Bay has 18 available on their website. The shade Everything Nice has been talked about in many of my posts and swatches can be seen here.

The packaging says this lipstick is cruelty free.

Final Thoughts: I like the shade I picked up from Coloured Raine but I am not too sure if I am going to pick another shade from the range yet. The reason I have picked another shade from Gerard Cosmetics and I am after one more shade from the same range already makes it quite clear that I definitely prefer GC over CR.

Have you tried any of the lipsticks I mentioned above? How would you rate them? Do you have recommendations for any long lasting less drying liquid lipstick that can take the Greasy food challenge? Let me know in the comments section below.

Until next time…

  2. GC Liquid Lipsticks are one of my favourite formulas. I don’t have 1995, I need it though, its such a pretty shade. I’ve not tried the CR ones, they sound intriguing though xx

  5. I have and love both of these shades! I do think I prefer the Gerard Cosmetics formula, though Coloured Raine is still very good and it’s always great to support a company owned by a woman of colour 🙂
