Apothaka Rebalancing cleansing oil and rejuvenating face oil - Ms Tantrum Blog

2 Oils you must try from Apothaka

I have been hearing great things about Apothaka Treatment Oils in the beauty community and I am so glad I got an opportunity to try couple of products from the range. Natasha – the owner of Apothaka (Apothecary brand) is passionate about oils and hand blends all her products in small batches. Quality is her priority and she makes sure that the ingredients for all her products are 100% naturally derived.

Rebalancing Cleansing Oil is a new launch from the brand and has goodness of jojoba, geranium, lavender & comfrey. This silky & light emulsifying cleansing oil gently but effectively removes make up, sunscreen & impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils. It balances the skin and  maintains it’s equilibrium.

It is suitable for all skin types especially combination/oily & problem skin owing to its light formulation and would not clog pores. Organic jojoba, lavender & geranium help to balance the skin, rosemary cleanses whilst comfrey soothes the skin. The oil includes a gentle plant-based emulsifier which allows cleanser to be rinsed off with water: providing cleansed, soft skin without a greasy residue.

Ingredients

Vitis vinifera (grapeseed) oil, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba)* oil, Polyglyceryl-4 oleate (plant-based emulsifier derived from sunflower oil), Ricinus communis (castor) oil*, Symphytum officinale (comfrey) leaf extract, Tocopherol (natural Vitamin E), Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil*, Pelargonium graveolens (geranium) leaf oil*, Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil*,Citronellol, Geraniol, Eugenol. *Organically produced ingredient. Natural constituent of essential oils listed.

How to Use

Shake gently before use. Dispense 3-4 pumps oil into the palm of your hand and massage over a dry face and neck for at least a minute, to lift off make up & impurities. Splash face with warm water to emulsify cleanser then massage a little more. Rinse off with warm water, and a warm wet washcloth if desired.

Overall Thoughts for Rebalancing Cleansing Oil

The rebalancing cleansing oil has a beautiful aroma that is very calming to the senses. It emulsifies beautifully and lifts away all impurities, makeup and sunscreen leaving a clean and soft skin. It can also be used as a morning cleanser. This oil is also great for sensitive skin. The oil doesn’t clog my pores. The pump packaging prevents any wastage of product.

Apothaka rejuvenating face oil - Ms Tantrum Blog

This award winning face oil has co-enzyme Q10, geranium & sandalwood in it that together reveal soft, smooth skin. The oil is the Winner of the 2017 Beauty Shortlist Editor’s Choice Award and got featured in Vogue (May 2017 edition). It is a light yet nourishing formulation specifically for normal to combination skin types with a non-greasy feel. It features predominantly high linoleic oils which easily absorb into the skin without clogging pores. It is packed with a wonderful range of protective ingredients including hempseed oil, evening primrose, sea buckthorn and co-enzyme Q10.

Ingredients:

Cannabis sativa (Hemp) seed oil*, Carthamus tinctoris (Safflower) oil*, Squalane (Olive squalane) / olea europea, Macadamia ternifolia (Macadamia) nut oil*, Oenothera biennis (Evening primrose) oil, Hippophae rhamnoides (Sea buckthorn) oil, Ubiquinone (Co-enzyme Q10), Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil, Tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E), Santalum spicatum (sandalwood) oil, Boswellia carterii (frankincense) oil*, Pelargonium graveolens (geranium) oil*, Bursera delpechiana (linaloe wood) oil, Benzyl benzoate, Citral, Geraniol, Citronellol, Limonene, Linalool. *Organically produced ingredient. Natural constituent of essential oils listed.

How to use it (Tips from Natasha) :

  • Always apply oils to cleansed, damp skin as this helps to lock in moisture, minimises the amount of oil you require and allows for better absorption of the oil. Better still, if you use a hydrating toner and/or a water based serum (e.g. something with hyaluronic acid / glycerin for hydration), apply the oil straight after those too – again whilst skin is still damp. Face oils work best alongside water-based products (especially hydrating serums or toners) as your skin needs a balance of water and oils regardless of skin type.

If your skin leans more combination / oily in hot climates:

  • Add  1-2 drops of oil to a water-based hydrating serum (as above) to create a light moisturising emulsion and apply to damp skin (after cleansing and / or a hydrating toner), gently spreading over the face. This is a great alternative to a cream moisturiser in the summer if you have oily skin. Start with less oil initially then build up only if you feel you need it. You may find you don’t need to use another moisturiser (lotion/cream) as well, though it’s fine to do so if you wish (especially in colder weather) – just make sure you only use the smallest amount of oil and add it to the moisturiser instead of the serum.

If your skin leans more dry in colder climates:

  • Use the oil as a booster (best if your skin is easily congested): just add a a drop or two to your usual cream for an added nourishing boost.
  • Or layer the oil: layer the oil with cream (after a hydrating serum)
  • The order in which you apply the oil and cream is subject to debate depending on who you ask! Natasha prefers to apply products in order of texture – from lighter products to heavier/richer products last, in which case the oil would go over the cream (unless your cream is very heavy/rich).
  • Another great tip: If your moisturiser contains actives (retinoids, acids, vitamin C etc). you should definitely apply the oil after this.

Other usage tips:

  • If you apply the oil on its own (not mixed with a serum/cream), press it gently into damp skin, or use gentle upward sweeping motions to apply it – don’t rub or drag the skin. This oil is very light and easily absorbed so doesn’t need to be massaged in as you may do with heavier oils.
  • Try to avoid making any other changes to your skincare routine at the same time as introducing the oil, this allows your skin to adjust. If you’re totally overhauling your skincare routine, I’d strongly advise introducing one product at a time and leave a couple of weeks before adding in another. This allows you to determine what works / doesn’t work for your skin.
  • For an added glow in the day time, you can mix a drop of face oil with any liquid foundation or apply just one drop to your skin before adding powder foundation / bronzer (works best for normal to dry skin)
  • Although this oil is very light, it hasn’t been designed specifically for the eye contour area. Be careful as the skin is very delicate and more sensitive to essential oils.

Overall thoughts

First of all, this award winning oil provides an aromatherapeutic experience to the senses. The oil is so lightweight that it sinks into the skin right away. Due to the light consistency, it acts as a multi-purpose product for mixing into foundation, as a base for powder or creamy products, using as a quick SOS treatment for dry ends of hair or to manage fly-aways. It comes in different variations for normal-combination skin and normal-dry skin.

Both Oils are absolute gems from the brand and I cannot recommend them enough!

Until next time
